Fortress Feedlot

About 6.000 weaners, preferably Bonsmara or Bonsmara-cross are fed per annum under intensive conditions. Self-mixed rations largely consist of maize (corn) silage, hominy chop, molasses and concentrate. A major portion of this fodder is produced on Fortress farm. Apart from Fortress own weaners, most of them are sourced from regular Fortress clients. Computerised record-keeping and performance monitoring enables them to inform their clients of how their weaners grew in the Fortress feedlot. The preferred average weight of weaners they purchase is around 225kg. They will gain an average of 180kg in about 110 days to be slaughtered as super-grade (A2) at different abattoirs.
